Tornado confirmed in Wilcox County Tuesday

The National Weather Service confirms that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Wilcox County during Tuesday’s severe storms.

From the National Weather Service:

Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /Statute/: 1.6 miles Path Width /Maximum/: 50 yards

This tornado began in a Pecan orchard in western Wilcox County south of Bowen Rd and intensified quickly with 100 mph winds. At least 100 Pecan trees were snapped and shredded along a narrow 30 yard wide path with essentially no damage on either side. The tornado traveled east and weakened slightly snapping several trees. It then destroyed a 400ft of a large chicken house. A few more trees were downed before the tornado lifted just east of the intersection of Bowen Rd and highway 159.
