Hundreds of Thanksgiving meals for Middle Georgia
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There’s one thing Natasha Graham is thankful for this holiday.
“I am thankful for these people,” said Graham describing The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.
The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia provided 1,200 Thanksgiving meals for the community this year. Graham was one of the many who enjoyed a hot meal from the mission.
CEO of the mission, Erin Reimers says they not only do it to feed the homeless and less fortunate.
“We do it because we want to love on individuals who might not have anywhere else to go on Thanksgiving,” said Reimers. “Whether they’re homeless or they just don’t have family in the area or whatever we want to bring them in.”
Aside from serving 500 meals at the mission, more than 700 meals were delivered to the elderly and disabled.
“It’s awesome because a lot of people you know aren’t able to afford something to eat and for them to help others to be able to eat and you know, be fortunate,” said Graham.
This is all thanks to volunteers.
“We have about 100 volunteers on Thanksgiving day,” said Reimers. “That’s in addition to the volunteers who have been coming for about a week and a half now helping us chop celery and helping prepare the silverware and that sort of thing.”
80 turkeys, 480 pounds of Mac-n-cheese and 200 rolls later, the meals impacted many families like Graham’s.
“That means everything to me in my heart, you know, because this place has helped me tremendously and I know I’ve seen them help so many other people,” said Graham.
