Eat Well-Play Hard Rally held at Tattnall Square Park

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Children of all ages were at Tattnall Square Park in Macon today for the Eat Well-Play Hard Rally.

The event was held in order to teach kids how to stay healthy by instilling good eating habits combined with regular physical activity.

There were healthy snacks, giveaways, low-fat recipes, music, and even a bike raffle for those in attendance.

Nancy White, Administrator of the Macon-Bibb County Health Department, said putting on an event like this is a good way to show the younger generation the virtues of a healthy lifestyle.

“Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,” said White. “That is very scary that our children and youth are now facing those at such a young age, so we really want to show what we can do to prevent that.”

According to White, 15% of high school students in Georgia are considered obese, with another 16% considered overweight.
