Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia feeds hundreds on ‘Good Friday’
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia prepared more than 1,000 meals on ‘Good Friday’. It was a time for families to come together and celebrate what the easter holiday is all about.
“We have ham, we have turkey, we have mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and coconut creme pie,” says Erin Reimers, President of the rescue mission.
This hot meal was served to those who needed it the most. The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia served hundreds of meals to the homeless, elderly, disabled, and hospice patients in the area on ‘Good Friday’.
“Good Friday is a day that Jesus died on the cross for us and what better way to show the love of Jesus through us to serve those in need on the day that he died for us,” Reimers added.
About 50 volunteers helped make the annual feast a success. Some delivered meals right to residents’ door steps. Antonio Driskell was one of the volunteers who delivered. He says the feeling he gets from helping others can’t be explained.
“One lady said her refrigerator had just broken down so she was very thankful for her meal,” Driskell continues.
Volunteers say being able to provide this service makes them feel good inside.
“It makes me feel great. Easter is definitely my favorite holiday. It’s a holiday that gives hope to everyone. I hope that we’re going to be able to live with Jesus one day because of what he did for us, so the least I can do is give some time to serve these people,” says Lizzie Reed, who volunteered.
Families also got a chance to sing in the chapel and hear an Easter message from the chaplain, explaining what Easter is all about.
