UGA baseball rallies for 10-inning win at Mercer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Mercer’s 4-0 lead over Georgia Wednesday wasn’t enough of a cushion.

After giving up a three-run home run in the first inning and allowing a run on a passed ball in the second, Georgia steadily erased the deficit on a cool and windy night at Claude Smith Field, forcing an extra inning before prevailing with a 7-6 win.

Down 6-4 in the top of the ninth, the Bulldogs continued their rally, tying the game at six. Mercer was unable to pull ahead in the bottom of the frame.

In the top of the tenth, UGA (3-1) scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right field by Logan Moody.

Blakely Brown (1.2 innings pitched, 3 strikeouts) took the win for the Dawgs.

Mercer (3-1) hosts Xavier in a weekend series starting Friday.

Georgia hosts the Bulldog Invitational this weekend. It will play South Alabama on Friday, Cincinnati on Saturday and Western Kentucky on Sunday.
