Another chilly afternoon, but sunnier skies moving forward

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cold air settles in our area after a strong cold front — which brought a few flurries to our area yesterday — heads away from the southeast. Temperatures this morning have been colder than average and mostly in the 20s.

The difference today compared to yesterday? We get to bask in a lot more sunshine. Despite that, temperatures will run well below average.

High today: 45
Average high: 61

Add the 10-15 mph winds, and you’re looking at a wind chill in the 30s this afternoon. Overnight lows will once again be in the mid – upper 20s.

Temperatures moderate by week’s end as highs approach the 60s by Friday with overnight lows in the 30s. And then, just as soon as it warms up, temperatures will come crashing back down because of another cold front. Right now, I have low – mid 40s for highs again Sunday with lows in the 20s.

And that’s what makes us very interested in our next system. We’re set to get rainfall on Presidents’ Day, and with overnight lows possibly below freezing, there is a chance for wintry precipitation. It really depends on how quickly temperatures warm and the timing of the system. Right now, recent models have trended warmer and the chances don’t look as good, but we’re hoping future model runs show something more promising because some real snowfall, frankly, would be a lot of fun. Stay tuned!
