Christmas in Downtown Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Christmas celebrations in downtown Macon will last all December long. The month long event highlights different aspects of the Macon community and will include various events.

The 2015 theme is “Believe”- “whatever you believe in, celebrate the season in downtown Macon.”

The month long celebration will feature Christmas Carols from the Bibb County Schools, the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree in Rosa Parks square, shopping, music, and Santa for the kids. The Main St. Christmas Parade will have floats, music, and children of all ages are welcome.

The schedule of events: 

Thursday, December 3- the Bibb County Board of Education Christmas Tree Lighting in the Macon City Auditorium at 6:30pm.
The annual Christmas tree lighting will have nearly 250 students singing Christmas Carols and the Christmas Tree Lighting in Rosa Parks Square. Also, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful will be handing out 500 Cherry Blossom Trees during the event. 

Sunday, December 6- Main Street Macon Christmas Parade- 3:00pm

The theme of this year’s community parade is “Believe” and will feature marching bands, floats, and of course, Santa.
Main Street Manager Steven Fulbright said “We chose a theme this year with hopes to see all different ways people express their holiday traditions….whatever you believe in, celebrate the season in downtown Macon.”

Saturday December 12- Christmas on First Street- 4:00pm-10:00pm

This is going to be Middle Georgia’s largest Christmas event and will take place December 12 in Rosa Parks Square. There will be free pictures with Santa as well as a bounce house for the kids. For the adults, there will be craft beer to enjoy and even snow. The holiday market will be open from 4:00-10:00pm and First street merchants will be hosting a variety of games, crafts, and gifts. 2015 Street Closures and Parade Route

We work very closely with the Bibb County Sheriff Department to insure that you and your business are met with the least amount of impediment as possible. The following streets will be closed during set-up for the parade:

  • Fifth Street – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Cherry Street Plaza – 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Cherry Street (Fifth Street – First Street) 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. No parking enforced from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Restaurant patrons will be allowed to travel along Second Street and turn onto Cherry and drop off patrons along Cherry Street and then exit Cherry Street by turning right onto Third Street. Patrons can also park along Third Street and utilize the Third Street turnarounds. Cherry Street will be completely closed at 2:30 p.m.
  • First Street (Cherry Street – Mulberry Street) – 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. No parking enforced from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Second Street (Cherry Street – Mulberry Street) – 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Third Street (Cherry Street – Mulberry Street) – 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Mulberry Street (First Street – MLK) 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. No parking enforced from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Martin Luther King Jr Blvd (Mulberry Street – Poplar Street) 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. No parking enforced from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
