Fountain goes up in Tattnall Square Park after 45 years
Construction crews finished installing the fountain at Tattnall Square Park on Thursday. For years a flagpole stood where the fountain was, now the fountain is back thanks to several community organizations including the Knight Neighborhood Challenge, Piedmont Construction Group, Sierra Development Corporation, Mercer University, and the Friends of Tattnall Square Park.
“It’s an historic day. It’s been 100 years since the first one was here. It’s been 80 years since we’ve had a working fountain in Tattnall Square Park and it’s been 45 years since we’ve had any fountain at all here,” Andrew Silver, with the Friends of Tattnall Square Park, says.
41NBC brought you the story of a little girl who raised about $200 with an old book sale to try and bring the old fountain back. Silver says it took $350,000 to recreate the fountain.
He says there will be a plaza and garden where people will be able to inscribe personalized bricks around the fountain.
