Record low broken, second sunny day in a row

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A hot summer is transitioning to a cool one, but it’ll warm up considerably by week’s end. A cold front, which brought rain to Middle Georgia on Saturday, has moved farther south since then. High pressure has built into the area behind it, keeping the weather lovely.

Also, we broke a record low this morning. As of this writing (6:38am), the temperature in Macon was 50, with the record low being 51. It still has room to cool through 7:30am, which is normally when the temperature trend reverses and it starts to warm, so we’ll see if the low can get a bit cooler and make the record harder to beat.

It’s quite a reversal from most of the summer when record highs were tied or broken. With fall starting in a little over a week, we’re finally getting a break from the heat and enjoying an early taste of autumn.

The only chance of rain during the extended forecast is moisture lifting into the area from the south around Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday. We’ll see a few showers, but a dry forecast is set for the next seven days other than that.

Enjoy the cooler temperatures while they last as highs are forecasted to rise to the upper 80s by the week’s end. Overnight lows, thankfully, look to remain cool in the mid 60s.
