Macon Bibb Mayor presents FY16 millage rate
The proposal will eliminate the former City of Macon tax and keep the county tax the same. During the first fiscal year of consolidation, commissioners took away half of the City of Macon tax. Now the mayor wants to get rid of the rest, but keep the county millage rate the same.
Some people will see an increase or decrease in their taxes because of property value, but the mayor said that’s out of his control.
“Some people may see their property evaluation increase, but not the tax rate. We’ve maintained the tax rate at a level rate without going up on the county while eliminating the double taxation on the city,” explained Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert.
The Operations and Finance Committee will review the ordinance next week. If it passes, it will go to full commission for a vote on August 18.
