Falcons host moms football safety clinic at RAFB

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Everyone knows football has the potential to be dangerous, but as former Atlanta Falcon Buddy Curry says, anything can be dangerous.

Curry was part of a football safety clinic for moms Monday at Robins Air Force Base.  It was the first clinic of its kind at a military base.

Moms were taught how to prevent injuries to their sons who play football. They learned how to properly fit equipment and even how their sons should tackle, which is leading with their shoulders (not their heads).

“The whole family needs to understand what’s going on,” Curry says. “What’s getting ready to happen is not only are the coaches being trained, you have the parents being trained, you have the officials being trained, you have the whole community understanding what a good collision looks like and what do you do if something happens to a kid.”

Falcons rookies Jonathon Mincy (Auburn) and Michael Lee (FVSU) were at the clinic too, as well as a representative from Riddell equipment.

After their classroom style instruction, the moms went outside to put their newly learned tackling technique to work.
