UPDATE: Person of interest in Bibb County homicide kills himself

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a person of interest in the murder of 30-year-old LaSmockie Fountain committed suicide Monday afternoon.

Lt. Randy Gonzalez tells 41NBC 38-year-old Derrick Booze was found in the backyard of a home on Pinson Street around 4:45 p.m. Gonzalez says he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities were looking for Booze. They say he had some type of a relationship with Fountain.

Fountain was found shot to death in the backyard of a home on Case Street Saturday morning.


MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman was found dead just hours after arriving in Macon, according to Bibb County Sheriff’s investigators.

30-year-old LaSmockie Fountain was found shot to death at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at 3565 Case Street, according to Lt. Randy Gonzalez.

Deputies are looking for 38-year-old Derrick Khunta Booze. They are calling him a person of interest.

“Booze did have some type of boyfriend, girlfriend relationship with the victim at some point in time,” said Gonzalez.

Fountain’s body was discovered by her best friend, Raquell Jones, in Fountain’s grandmother’s backyard, according to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones said Fountain’s grandmother heard shots sometime during the night.

Bibb County investigators are interviewing witnesses and processing evidence found at the scene to get more information about the homicide.

The lieutenant added previous warrants had been issued on May 13 for Booze’s arrest.

Those warrants include aggravated assault/family violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, home invasion and pointing a pistol at another.
