Scattered showers and storms in Middle Georgia today

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Today will finally deliver to us some rain and storms after what has been an unusually dry month. The rain will follow a summer-like pattern: a quiet morning, then showers and storms start to pop up in the afternoon, with showers and storms fizzling overnight. We’ll start to see precipitation form around noon, but it’ll become more widespread around 1 and 2 o’clock.

There is no chance for severe weather as CAPE (convective available potential energy) values are on the low side, and wind shear is practically nonexistent. A strong storm with a lot of lightning is possible, but severe weather? Nah, don’t worry about it!

Tomorrow, the chance for storms and showers returns in the afternoon (no chance for severe weather), but a dry air mass takes over after that, giving us drier but hotter weather Wednesday and Thursday. I have the high around 92 both days, well above the average of 85/86, and I’ll watch to see how the models fluctuate as we get closer to midweek. No doubt the extra sunshine will help bring summer-like temperatures back into our area.
