Perry City Council prepares for FY 2016 budget meetings

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry residents could see a decrease in their property taxes.

The mayor and city council are preparing for its 2016 budget hearings. The city manager’s recommendations do not include personnel or service cuts, but it does propose a slight decrease in the property millage rate. Tax payers could also see an increase in other service fees.

“Council may look at those recommendations and make the decision that we don’t want to have the increases here. Well, you still have to balance the budget from that standpoint. So if we don’t increase here, then we have to increase somewhere else to some degree,” explained Mayor Jimmy Faircloth.

Perry City Council will hold several budget presentations before taking a final vote.

The first is Monday, May 18th. The second is Thursday, May 21st. The last hearing is Monday, June 1st. All are at 5:00 p.m. in council chambers and open to the public.
