Severe weather possible today, but sunshine and cooler temps Tuesday
Original weather write-up:
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The storms won’t be frequent, but of the ones that form, some could be severe. This doesn’t seem outside the norm as far as spring severe weather and we don’t expect much rain, but severe storms are severe storms nonetheless, so we want to keep you informed. Here’s what you can expect:
What:
Moisture moves into our area from the southwest, and while it won’t be anywhere close to as widespread as yesterday, the few storms that form could be severe. There is enough CAPE (convective available potential energy) that high wind and hail are the biggest concerns for severe storms that form. There is also enough wind shear in the atmosphere that I can’t rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado, though I don’t anticipate anything widespread or extraordinarily strong. Bottom line: concern yourself more with the possibility of high wind and hail than tornadoes.
The positive news is temperatures will be kept low today (upper 70s), so there won’t be a lot of daytime heating. That would have spurred more and possibly stronger storms, so we’re fortunate in that aspect!
When:
Isolated storms start to pop up around 2 – 3pm. Storms will pop up here and there throughout the afternoon and possibly into the evening, though the chance for severe storms is diminished then.
What about tomorrow?
The rain has been beneficial this past week, especially for Middle Georgia farmers! But those of you waiting for dry weather get your wish starting tomorrow. Sunshine dominates our forecast Tuesday and Wednesday. On top of that, the cold front will bring temperatures down to the upper 70s, with low 80s possible Wednesday. Combine that with the low humidity and winds from the north, and I expect a great midweek!
