(CNN)- Recovery efforts are underway across West Virginia after historic flooding devastated communities, while Tropical Storm Bertha threatens to bring more heavy rain to parts of the Southeast.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said state and local officials, along with the National Guard, remain focused on search and rescue operations in the storm’s aftermath.

More than 500 members of the West Virginia National Guard have been deployed, and officials say emergency crews have carried out more than 100 rescues.

Aerial footage released by the governor shows widespread destruction, including washed-out roads, flooded neighborhoods and impassable streets. In Fayetteville, a vehicle fell into a sinkhole created by the powerful storm.

Business owners are also dealing with extensive flood damage as cleanup efforts continue.

Forecasters say the storm system responsible for West Virginia’s flooding will linger across Virginia and the Southeast through the end of the week, increasing the risk of additional flash flooding.

That threat is being fueled in part by moisture from Tropical Storm Bertha, which made landfall in southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday. The storm brought tropical-storm-force wind gusts, hazardous beach conditions and heavy rain as it moved west across southern Louisiana.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said the storm is not expected to produce the worst-case rainfall or wind impacts, but officials continue urging residents to monitor forecasts and remain prepared as Bertha moves inland.
