Hutchings College and Career Academy officials want to focus on career-prep courses
Right now, they only have about 200 full-time students. They feel they would be able to give their students a better learning experience if they only offered their career-prep courses.
Students would still be able to take general education classes, but they would be dual-enrolled with Central Georgia Technical College.
“A student might have a desire to go into the medical field after high school, so what they will do is they will come over to the career academy and take the health care pathway for part time, and then return to their home school,” explained the CTAE Director at Hutchings College and Career Academy, Cassandra Washington.
If the Bibb County Board of Education approves this change, full-time students would go back to their assigned schools in their district. Officials at Hutchings would like to start their program at the beginning of the next school year.
