Twiggs County Holiday Safety Check

St. Patrick’s Day may be over, but the celebration continues on through this weekend.

Twiggs County Sheriff’s Department teamed up with surrounding law enforcement agencies to conduct a holiday weekend safety check.

“This is all in an effort to try to deter some of that activity to create a “speed bump” to try to slow people down and weed those drunk drivers and those reckless drivers and those criminal elements out there with narcotics off our highways,” said Twiggs County Sheriff’s Major Jamie McDaniel.

Holiday weekends often result in more traffic. With the nation’s second biggest party in Savannah, it’s no wonder police are out in full force.

“We just try to step up our enforcement efforts and try to make the roads safer for the motoring public,” said Twiggs County Sheriff’s Chief Deput Billy Boney.

During a routine safety check, officers arrest anywhere from 25 to 35 people in just one day. The most common arrest is driving without a license.
