Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Festival Paints Town Green

St. Patrick’s Day may only be once a year, but the city of Dublin spends an entire month celebrating the luck of the Irish.

The 46th Annual St. Patrick’s Festival in Dublin started February 26th of this year and goes until March 27th. With close to 40 different events during the month long celebration, it’s no wonder planning for the festivities starts as soon as it ends.

“But it’s an ongoing process…we have meetings every month, we have schedules to start looking at every month, so it’s almost a year in advance,” said Assistant Vice President of Bank of Dudley Andrea Payne.

It’s an event that attracts people from all over. General Chairman of the festival Janie Stewart says there are activities for all ages.

“We have people who come in from the Middle Georgia area and we also have some visitors from much further away so the tourism dollars help to promote our county and city economically.”

The festival doesn’t just boost the tourism industry. Business owner Ashley Warren says she notices an increase in sales during this time of year too.

“It really brings in a big crowd. For Dublin a town of our size it draws a really large crowd and it’s always a lot of fun.”

People in Dublin look forward to the festival every year. Warren says the best part is seeing how it’s all volunteer-based.
