Milledgeville “Kids Club” campers learn fire safety

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41/WMGT) – Milledgeville campers got a chance to learn the dangers of house fires during a drill.

The Baldwin County Fire Department rolled out its fire safety house to teach campers how to avoid a house fire and what to do in the event of a blaze.

One by one the children attending “Kids Camp” at the Milledgeville Country Club, climbed down a ladder to escape, during the drill.

Fire fighters explained the hazards of fire places and how to put out flames on the stove.

Baldwin county fire investigator Billy Benzur says they are working to prevent fires through education.

“I understand that it’s a very easy thing for children to get hurt by fire whether its playing with matches playing with fireworks playing with lighters, their parents leave behind, and a lot of families don’t know about what it takes to keep your children safe and that’s what we’re trying to do is educate them because it’s quite a tragedy when a child gets hurt,” says Benzur.

One camper, 13-year-old Marisa Foster says she enjoyed making her way through the smoke during the fire drill.

“It was really fun because we learned how to crawl out and go down the ladder,” says Foster.
