Nearly 450 people strolled through the ninth annual “Senior Expo”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than 400 seniors from across Middle Georgia crowded into the Centerplex for the ninth annual “Senior Expo.”

Macon-Bibb Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office were among the nearly 50 vendors, talking with the elderly how to prevent home fires and burglaries.

Other agencies on hand for the event talked with elderly residents about topics ranging from making good financial decisions, to scams targeting seniors such as identity theft.

“Educating our public about fire safety is going to help macon-bibb county have lower fatality rates,” says, Macon-Bibb Fire Safety Officer, Lt. Ellen Kicklighter. “Education, I think is key in getting our death rate down here in Macon due to fires.”

The 2014 Senior Expo was sponsored by the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia .
