Marines toss out the old UH-1N helicopter, new UH-1Y Huey ready for flight

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new “Super Huey” is scheduled to arrive at Robins Air Force Base, Wednesday.

The helicopter is a part of the U.S. Marine H1 upgrade, for the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron-HMLA-773.

The next generation UH-1Y “Super Huey” will replace the older UH-1N model.

The new ‘Y’ model features four composite rotor blades, higher horsepower twin engines, multifunction liquid crystal “glass cockpit” displays, and an enhance targeting system.

The newer “Super Hueys” share 84 percent of the same drive system, avionics, software, controls and displays as the next generation AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter that is also scheduled to replace the AH-1W Super Cobra.

Several Y model “Super Hueys” are scheduled to arrive in the months ahead.
