House demolished to kick-off Macon-Bibb 5×5 program

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon home was demolished to kick-off the Macon-Bibb County District 2 5×5 program.

Mayor Robert Reichert, District 2 Commissioner Larry Schlesinger and Macon-Bibb County department heads watched as 4215 Irving Avenue was destroyed. A public works crew demolished the house and hauled all the scrap to a nearby landfill.

The former city’s 5×5 program has been expanded to include all nine commission districts.

The expansion of the 5×5 program will also include Habitat for Humanity, community partnerships, Macon Water Authority, Rebuilding Macon, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’re trying to work with the neighbors in their respective neighborhoods to get rid of blight and reinstate hope and pride in their neighborhoods,” says Mayor Reichert

The mayor says they will replace the Irvine Avenue home with a community garden.

Reichert says the 5 blocks and 5 weeks program will deliver intense multiple services to renovate Bibb County communities.
