Twiggs County students register with CHIP

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students at Jeffersonville Elementary school are now registered with the Child Identification Program.

Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum and deputies along with the GBI registered the students today.

The program known as “CHIP” is funded by the Georgia Masonic Charities Foundation.

Kindergarteners at the school were the first to register.

Students were weighed, fingerprinted and swabbed in order to obtain personal information, including DNA samples.

Sheriff Mitchum says the CHIP registration is valuable information to have in the event of an emergency.

“You can’t ever have too much information on children,” says Sheriff Mitchum. “It helps for any future problems you may have, if you have a child go missing.”

Each student was given a CHIP kit to take home to their parents.
