GC Men’s Basketball Lands Three on PBC All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Sophomores Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw, Ga.), Robert Armstrong (Norcross, Ga.) and Alex Reid (Savannah, Ga.) of the Georgia College men’s basketball team (9-14, 5-11 PBC) were named to the 2013-14 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team.
Blumenthal holds a 3.42 GPA as a marketing major, starting 20 games this season and averaging 12.2 points per game. Armstrong, a management major, holds a 3.44 GPA starting nine of the 20 games he played, and averaging 5.2 points per game. Alex Reid, a Math major, holds a 3.31 GPA playing in 19 games this season.
The trio gives GC men’s basketball nine honorees to the team in the six seasons it has been awarded. The most recent honoree was in the 2010-11 season, as Josh Hurst (2007-11) took a spot on the team for the third time in his career.
The team participates in the season-long program that recognizes student athletes for their excellence on the court as well as in the classroom. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, the athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. traveling to No. 16 University of Montevallo.
