Warner Robins City Council Discusses July 4th Celebration

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It took about $85,000 to have a Fourth of July celebration in Warner Robins last year.

But with some bad weather and bad luck, the celebration never happened.

Tuesday night, the Warner Robins City Council met and discussed this year’s celebration.

Members are beginning discussions early in order to be fully prepared for one of the summer’s big events.

Two different groups want to help plan the event to make sure it goes smoothly.

Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms says he was at the failed event last year, and he says he wants to succeed this summer.

“Certainly, I saw paperwork where the total on the event spent last year was about $85,000, which is a lot of money,” said Mayor Toms. “But there were also two cancellations, things that could not be avoided, and you can’t blame that on anybody other than the weather.”

Mayor Toms said he didn’t mind which group ran the event, he just wants it to be successful.

He said the council may have to consider insurance for these types of events.
