Campus Named PBC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Sophomore Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) of Georgia College has been named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Campus was one of two Georgia College players to open the season with a perfect 2-0 in singles play for the No. 11 Bobcats.
Campus beat Morehouse College’s Chris Hawthorp 6-3, 6-0 in the Bobcats’ season opener. He then claimed one of the three Bobcat points against No. 27 Valdosta State University, beating Tammo Haake 6-3, 6-0. He played both of his singles matches at No. 5.
Campus also competed at No. 3 doubles for Georgia College pairing with freshman Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.). The pair went 1-1 on the week with an 8-1 victory in the home opener against Maroon Tigers defeating Jabez Beazer and Brandon Sanders. Against the Blazers, the pair dropped an 8-2 decision to Gereon Heitman and Niklas Herbring.
The GC men’s tennis team returns to action Saturday, Feb. 15 against Erskine College at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility at 1 p.m.
