Mercer Women’s Basketball Set for Saturday Battle at First-Place Stetson

DELAND, Fla. (MERCER RELEASE) – On the back end of a two-game road swing to the Sunshine State, the Mercer women’s basketball team will look to take down conference-leading Stetson Saturday afternoon when the two teams battle at 1 p.m. inside the Edmunds Center.

Story Lines

Stetson has won eight-straight games against Mercer in the all-time series, including a 72-60 victory in side Hawkins Arena earlier this season. The Bears last defeated the Hatters in January of 2010, ending a run of five consecutive wins against Stetson.

Taylor McClintock had her coming out party Thursday at FGCU, setting career highs for points with 17, made three-pointers with five, made field goals with six and minute played with 20. The five three-pointers made is the most by any Mercer player in a game this season.

Saturday’s victory against Lipscomb broke a string of eight straight games Sharnea Boykin has played all 40 minutes in the contest. She logged 39 minutes against the Bisons and leads the conference in minutes played per game at 37.6.

Entering the week, Teanna Robinson ranked No. 2 in the country in blocks per game at 3.9, swatting 86 shots on the year.

Mercer’s 1.1 assist/turnover ratio is the best in the conference with 320 total assists to just 288 turnovers.

Sharnea Boykin has dished out 10+ assists in a game 11 times in her career to lead all active A-Sun players. Boykin is currently No. 6 in the A-Sun record books in career assists and needs just 18 assists to jump to fifth-place.

Last Time Out

The Mercer women’s basketball team gave up a season-high in points Thursday evening and fell 99-57 at Florida Gulf Coast University in Atlantic Sun Conference action at Alico Arena.

Scouting Stetson

Stetson (19-5, 11-1) continues to pace the Atlantic Sun Conference after picking a 30-point victory over Kennesaw State Thursday for its 11th-straight victory.

The Hatters were breaking milestones left and right against KSU, as Sasha Sims scored her 1,500th career point, Cherisse Burris grabbed her 500th career rebound and head coach Lynn Bria recorded her 100th victory at Stetson.

A balanced attack has the top-scoring offense in the league clicking on all cylinders, as the Hatters have five players averaging double figures, led by Sims who paces the conference at 16.1 points per contest. Stetson leads the A-Sun in 10 different statistical categories entering Saturday’s game.
