Kroger Stores Replenish Shelves Following Winter Storm

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Kroger Grocery stores are recuperating from this week’s winter storm.
Their trucks were delayed while traveling on icy roads from the store’s warehouses in Atlanta.

Some Kroger customers took a chance grocery shopping during the storm, but found the shelves almost bare.

Friday, people made their way to the Kroger store located at, 220 Tom Hill Sr., Blvd., in Macon. The store lost deliveries in each department. They ran out 12 count eggs, whole milk, lunch meat, hot dog and hamburger buns.

Irca Brunson was among those who braved the storm looking for groceries.

“The first couple of days of the ice storm I wanted to come to the store to make sure we had enough supplies, to get through just in case the lights went out,” says Brunson. “But, when I arrived a lot of necessary items were missing just like breakfast food. I wanted to make homemade chicken soup, but there was no chicken, very little in stock.”

Brunson said she had to make due with the items she did purchase at the store, during the storm. But was grateful she could find what she really wanted after the storm.

“It was very trying, to find everything that I wanted to get us through the storm,” she adds.

Some local grocery stores also ran out bottled water, bananas, strawberries, and chicken.

Now, Kroger employees are working overtime to get their stores fully stocked again.

“Kroger store, merchandising and logistics teams are working very hard to fully replenish our shelves, and expect to have our departments fully stocked by mid-day (Friday),” says Kroger Communications and Public Relations Director, Glynn Jenkins. “We have a coordinated effort with our suppliers and vendors to replenish items that are delivered by them such as bread and soft drinks, and they are in process of making deliveries tomorrow.

“Kroger has two warehouses in metro Atlanta—and our distribution teams are working just as hard as they can to get trucks loaded and on the road for deliveries to stores today,” adds Jenkins.
