Knights Men Get Much Needed Conference Win
COCHRAN, Georgia (MGSC RELEASE) – The Middle Georgia State Knights men’s basketball team picked up a big conference win on Monday night defeating Albany Tech by a final of 79-65. The Knights got the much needed win in GCAA play to keep their hopes alive of reaching the tournament. The win puts the team at 6-17 overall and 4-10 in the GCAA.
The Titans came out with the early lead going up 2-0 and 4-2 but the Knights took the lead and never gave it up after taking a 7-4 lead early in the first half. The Knights led by 11 at half time and opened up their largest lead of 28 points with about 8 minutes to go in the game. The Titans chipped away to get the final down to a 14 point win for the Knights. The Knights were led by Roshaun Milline with 22 points and 3 steals. Javaris Hooks added 14 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds while Rashard Flint had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Jalen Lewis led the team in rebounding with 9 boards.
The team currently sits 3 games back of the 6 seeded South Georgia in the GCAA and a spot in the playoffs. The Knights next game is schedule at home against Chattahoochee Tech but weather advisories have put the date of that game in question. The Knights still have to play 6 more conference games going through 1 seed South Georgia Tech before facing four opponents that are in contention for the 5 and 6 seeds in the GCAA tournament. Wins against Georgia Perimeter, Central Georgia Tech, South Georgia State, and Gordon could land the Knights in the playoffs at the beginning of March.
The Knights next game is unsure due to weather conditions but potentially has been postponed from the 12th to the 18th as Chattahoochee Tech has travel concerns with pending winter weather entering Georgia on Wednesday. Check www.ihigh.com/mgsknights for updates.
