Ex-Oscar Nominated Song To Be Performed At Christian Film Awards Ceremony
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The song whose Oscar nomination was withdrawn Wednesday will be performed Feb. 7 at the Movieguide Faith & Values Awards Gala.
The Christian Film & Television Commission says the song “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the film of the same name will be performed by Christian disability activist Joni Eareckson Tada , a quadriplegic who recorded the song with her husband pushing on her diaphragm to help her hit the high notes.
The motion picture academy said it rescinded the Academy Awards original song nomination after it discovered that composer Bruce Broughton emailed members of the group’s music branch to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period.
Broughton serves as a member of the music branch’s executive committee and is a former governor for the academy. Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs said using a position within the organization to personally promote one’s own Oscar submission created the appearance of an unfair advantage.
