Mercer Men’s Basketball No. 13 in Latest Mid-Major Poll
MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – The Mercer men’s basketball team landed the No. 13 spot in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, as released by the outlet on Monday. Mercer’s position marks the highest placement in program history and reflects the Bears’ 8-1 record since the first week of December.
The Bears collected 361 points in the poll, rising from last week’s No. 21 spot. The team has been featured in the poll for four-straight weeks after debuting at the No. 25 spot on Dec. 23.
Mercer’s previous high in the poll came in the 2012-13 preseason edition of the vote, which placed Mercer at No. 14.
Mercer (13-5, 4-1 A-Sun) is ranked No. 89 in the daily ESPN RPI and sits atop the Atlantic Sun standings with its best start to conference play in over a decade. The Bears continue league action on Thursday, opening a two-game road trip at Northern Kentucky.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
