Twiggs Commissioners Hear Ambulance Service Proposals

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Twiggs County Commissioners heard two proposals for ambulance service, during a special called meeting today.

Representatives from Med Pro Emergency Medical Services, and Magnolia Ambulance Service, say they want to serve the more than eight thousand residents in the county.

Med Pro EMS is out of Forsyth and Magnolia Ambulance Service is out of Conyers.

Magnolia Ambulance Service said they could start within two to three months. But, Med Pro said they could be ready to transport patients within two weeks.

Twiggs County Commissioners asked both ambulance services to prepare a written proposal for the next commission meeting.
Commissioners said they want to review both proposals before making a decision on which agency will work in Twiggs County. 

Jerry Fincher, has lived in the county for more than 26 years. He said there is an urgent need for a medically trained ambulance service in the area. He gave an example of how a delay in ambulance service cost turned fatal.

“An elderly man had a heart attack and collasped,” said Fincher. “A neighbor began CPR on him while waiting on an ambulance, for more than an hour. The sheriff showed up and helped him do the CPR and it took the ambulance over an hour to show up . The sheriff had to leave doing what he was doing to go find the ambulance, to bring the ambulance to him and he was already deceased by that time.”

Twiggs County Commissioners asked each agency to prepare written proposals for the next commission meeting. They said they wanted to look over the written proposals before voting on the agenda item.
