State Senator Cecil Staton Talks About His Agenda for 2014 Session

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — State Senator Cecil Staton stopped by the 41NBC studios to talk about the upcoming 2014 session.

He expects that “clean-up” legislation will be filed to make adjustments to the consolidation charter.

He added the issue of Payne City needs to be addressed because right now it’s sitting as an island in the middle of the County.

Staton said he doesn’t foresee any major local bills being filed, but other issues being addressed under the gold dome will impact middle Georgia.

“The budget is still the main thing. We are in the midst of a soft economic recovery, but there are a lot of pressures on our budget that do impact us locally things that we do for the schools, things that we do for higher education, things that we may want to do for Robins Air Force Base. So we’ll be watching out for all of those things to make sure we do what’s in the best interest of this community,” said Staton.

As far as his agenda, Staton said states need to get more involved with what’s going on in Washington. He’ll likely file a bill about the convention of states to deal with fiscal constraints in the nation’s capitol.

The upcoming 2014 session of the Georgia General Assembly begins on Monday, January 13th.
