Joiner Addresses Milledgeville City Council For Last Time

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s the end of an eventful term for one Milledgeville City Councilman–and for him, it’s the beginning of life after a term he’ll never forget.

After a controversial end to his four-year term, Phillip Joiner’s last motion as a Milledgeville City Councilman adjourned his last meeting.

Joiner held tears back as he addressed the Council tonight for the last time.

He mentioned the accomplishments the Board achieved, including the re-building of the Central Georgia State Hospital, as well as the beginning of a local skatepark.

He also reflected on what he learned about himself–the humility and perseverance it takes to be a public servant, and the bond forged between he and the other council members.

“I was just happy to have a chance to address everybody and have a few more votes and now I move on to other pursuits,” said Joiner. “I’ve got a beautiful wife and a beautiful daughter and I’m just happy to move forward and concentrating on family and the private sector–writing a book too so lot of things on the horizon. I’ll still be around and still be part of the community and hopefully in a leadership role.”

About 20 people looked on as Joiner spoke to the council for about 10 minutes.

Joiner said he learned life will knock you down, and admitted he has fallen down more often than he’d like, but in life, it’s about how you stand back up.
