“Feed the Hungry for Thanksgiving” Event Served More Than 200 Meals

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Saint Luke Baptist Church, took their message of giving to the streets, Thursday.

Every year the church serves a free thanksgiving meal to those who are less fortunate.

This year they held “Feed the Hungry for Thanksgiving” in a downtown Macon parking lot.

Church volunteers have been serving hot holiday meals for the last six years.

Some dined on site, while other meals were delivered to the sick and shut-in.

The coordinator of the event, Marie Harris, said they served more than two hundred meals between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., this Thanksgiving.

“We wanted to give back to the community and look out for our homeless people and make sure they enjoy Thanksgiving as well as everybody else,” said Harris.

Volunteers set up a hand washing station for diners, and people were able to shop for clothes, shoes and coats during the “Feed The Hungry for Thanksgiving” event.

Some volunteers said they brought their children to demonstrate to them the love of Christ.

Several other churches in the community help prepare and serve meals.

They said they just wanted to help somebody along the way.
