Ex-Macon Police Officers Sentenced to Jail Time for Tractor Theft

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two former Macon police officers are headed to prison after they pleaded guilty for stealing a tractor earlier this year.

As part of their plea agreement the Troy Guidry and Jon Wantz took the stand, and pleaded guilty for violating their oath of office, criminal trespass and theft by taking.

District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit David Cooke tells 41NBC he will ask for heavier sentences for any Macon Police officer, because he has higher expectations and responsibilities in the community.

“We’re pleased with the outcome as far as it being justice,” Cooke adds, “We’re not pleased with the officers violating their oath of office, that’s why we sent them to prison.”

Cooke also says this about the incident: “I’ve shown that when an officer violates the law, he’s going to do time. Crooked police officers will go to prison.”

Guidry is sentenced to 10 years of probation, and five years behind bars. Since Wantz complied at an initial hearing back in September, he’ll serve 10 years of probation and four years in prison.
