Local Democrats Urge Congress to Vote ‘NO’

Local Democrats were urging Congress to vote ‘No’ on repealing the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday in Macon. Democratic officials teamed up with local volunteers to call Georgia citizens to discuss the benefits of healthcare reform.

Macon City Council member Lauren Benedict says, “In 2009 it cost our firm $75,000 to insure 10 people.” When the Affordable Care Act went into effect Benedict’s law firm instantly received a 33 percent tax credit.

She believes that credit has lead to small businesses providing health insurance to their employees when they didn’t do it before.

Congressman Austin Scott is against the government taking over healthcare. Scott’s vote is to repeal and replace the so-called “Obama-Care.” He states, “ObamaCare is a prime example of how government mandates are hurting our economy, and making it harder for our small businesses to create jobs. Tonight, we’re repealing this two thousand page job-killing bill. Tomorrow, House Republicans will take a necessary step to replace it with a two page bill that will work to provide common-sense, market-based solutions. We are committed to reducing health care costs and expanding access for more Americans.”

With the Affordable Care Act parents can now add their adult children up to age 26 to their health plans, anyone on new plans can access preventive care with no additional out of pocket costs and children suffering from a pre-existing condition can no longer be denied coverage.
