GC Bobcats Fall In Close Match at UNC Pembroke

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s volleyball team (3-12, 1-7 PBC) fought hard but in the end fell short of a victory at UNC Pembroke (7-9, 1-4 PBC) Friday night, losing in five sets.

The Bobcats came out swinging; taking the first set 25-20 and the third set 27-25. After winning the first set the match then went back and forth as UNC Pembroke took the second set 25-21, the fourth 25-18 and final fifth set 16-14 to win the match.

Georgia College’s Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) led the team with 20 kills and hit .259. Miller Howard (Suwanee, Ga.) contributed 13 kills, and Ashley Savransky (Roswell, Ga.) added 10 setting her season high. For Reynolds, the match marked the second time the freshman eclipsed the 20-kill mark in a match. The first was against the University of Montevallo at home, tallying 26.

Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) led the Bobcats with a total of 26 digs for the night. She was helped by Ella Anastasiadas (Atlanta, Ga.) with 12 and Ashton Bigler (Fairborn, Ga.) and Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) who each had 11.

Patterson ran the offense well tonight, tallying a school-record 54 assists.

The Bobcats’ hitting at .160 was no match for UNC Pembroke’s .206. The Braves had four ladies with double-digit kills. They were led by Caroline Pridgen at 18. Sarah Bower and Sabrina Gonzalez posted 14 kills each and Cecilia Brandon had 12.

The Bobcats are back in action on the road Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. playing Francis Marion University.
