Francis Marion Downs GC Bobcats in Three Sets

FLORENCE, S.C. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s volleyball team (3-13, 1-8 PBC) fell at Peach Belt Conference (PBC) leader Francis Marion University (11-1, 6-0 PBC) in three sets Saturday afternoon.

Francis Marion started the match strong, winning the first set 25-13. The Bobcats made it tighter the rest of the way, losing the second 27-25 and the third set 25-21.

Georgia College’s Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.), Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga.), and Blake Willoughby (Savannah, Ga.) all tied for most kills with seven. The PBC’s leading attacker in both kills and kills per set, this marks the first time since Sept. 17 at Fort Valley State University that Reynolds has not had the solo lead in kills for her squad.

Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) once again led the Bobcats with a total of 16 digs for the night. Ham helped the offense with five of the team’s six aces as well. She was aided by Ella Anastasiadas (Atlanta) with 11 digs and Haley Ashworth (Cumming, Ga.) with seven. Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) added 29 assists to the cause.

The Bobcats were out-hit as they averaged .113 to Francis Marion’s .203. The Patriots were led by Emily Sears at 14 kills. She was helped by Jessica Imbimbo with 13.

The Bobcats will be traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic University for a two-day tournament, starting with the host squad Friday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.
