GC Softball’s Lucas Returns as Assistant Coach

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College softball team and head coach Jamie Grodecki are proud to announce the hiring of Kayla Lucas as an assistant coach. Lucas spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach with the Bobcats.

Lucas, a native of Conway, Ark., received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Baptist College after spending her first two years at Henderson State University. She graduated with a master’s degree in exercise science from Georgia College this past May.

“We are very fortunate to have Kayla on our staff,” said Grodecki. “She has been a great asset to our program the last two years as a graduate assistant, and I know she will do a great job as she transitions into a larger role within our program. Kayla gets the best out of our student athletes every day, through her hard work and commitment to success.”

Lucas played college softball all four years, while receiving NAIA, NCCAA, and NFCA All-American honors in 2011. She led Central Baptist College to a National Championship in 2010 and was named to the All-Region and All-Tournament teams along the way.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to stay at Georgia College,” said Lucas. “I look forward to continuing to help build this softball program and helping these girls graduate to find their passion in life. I want to thank Wendell Staton and Jamie Grodecki for giving me this opportunity.”

The Bobcats are fresh off a trip to the NCAA Southeast Regionals in 2013, and return two All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) players including All-American outfielder Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.).
