Dalton Nabs Goal, Assist in Bobcat Win Over USC Aiken 3-1
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE)– Matching their season’s best scoring output, the Georgia College women’s soccer team (4-2, 1-0 PBC) started their Peach Belt Conference (PBC) season with a 3-1 win over USC Aiken (3-3, 0-1 PBC) Saturday at Bobcat Field.
In the 10th minute, junior Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) worked her way past the Pacer defense, dropping a pass to the left for Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.). Barys took one touch and fired a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 24th minute, Dalton made it 2-0 by taking a deflected cross for the 2-0 lead, which would hold up until halftime.
The rain picked up in the second half, slowing the pace until the 81st minute. Junior Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) beat a defender and snapped a 25-plus yard shot low and just inside the left post for a 3-0 advantage.
It only took 17 seconds for the Pacers to cut the lead back, as Hannah Allison scored her fourth goal of the season. Allison checked into the game on the clock stoppage from Veilleux’s goal, and took a loose ball down the field to end the shutout.
Freshman Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) made a single save in the victory, as the Bobcats surrendered just nine shots, only two reaching Catapano. Georgia College had 10 shots, with Pacer goalkeeper Alli Edens making three saves in six tries.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. travelling to Lander University.
