Hannan Announces Addition of 23 Recruits

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – Second year Mercer men’s lacrosse head coach Kyle Hannan unveiled his first complete recruiting class on Friday, announcing the addition of 23 newcomers for the 2014 season.

With the exception of one transfer from Mount St. Mary’s University (junior), the entire group is comprised of high school players with four years of eligibility. The prospects hail from eight different states, and eight are Georgia natives. Eight of the newcomers are defenders, while eight are midfielders, five play attack, one is a face-off specialist and one is a goalkeeper.

“We are very excited to announce our class of 2017,” Hannan said. “This class will be very instrumental in the continued development of Mercer lacrosse. Our staff wanted to bring in men of character and proven leaders, and we believe this class possesses these traits.”

Hannan’s aim is to continue making strides with the program that completed its most successful season under his direction in 2013. Hannan took over the reins after the team’s 1-13 2012 season and lifted to squad to a 4-8 record in his first year – including five losses by three goals or less.

“Nineteen of our incoming student-athletes have filled the role of team captain,” Hannan continued. “This group also brings a lot of athleticism to the Bear program. The top four attackmen in this class scored 1,075 high school points, every midfielder was a multisport athlete and four US Lacrosse All-Americans add tremendous depth to the defense. The coaching staff believes that this special group of student-athletes will immediately contribute to the overall success of the Mercer lacrosse program on the field and in the classroom.”
