Driver Who Hit Firefighter Arrested, Granted Bond

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man accused of hitting a Macon-Bibb firefighter with his vehicle last month as the firefighter worked an accident on Interstate 75 is out on bond.

Bibb Sheriff’s deputies served 18-year-old Nayef Mohammed Al-Shroof of Warner Robins with three warrants in connection to the July 11 incident.  Al-Shroof turned himself in just before noon, according to Lt. Sean Defoe.

Al-Shroof is charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Violation of the Georgia Move Over Law.  According to the Bibb Sheriff’s Office website, his bond is set at $11,420.  The site also says he is released.

Defoe says under the conditions of his bond, which was granted Monday afternoon by Magistrate Judge Barbara Harris, Al-Shroof won’t be allowed to drive at all, he must wear a GPS device while he’s placed on house arrest, and he’s only allowed to go to school and religious functions.

Macon-Bibb firefighter Sgt. Eric John is still listed in critical but stable condition.
