Police Search for Woman After Bizarre Car Crash

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A bizarre single car crash left authorities puzzled Friday. A woman sped through a “road closed” sign and over an embankment which sent her soaring in the air, according to witnesses.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m., at the intersection of Eisenhower Parkway and Lower Boundary Street in Macon.

Witnesses told police, afterwards she got out of the white SUV, walked around it and then ran further into the woods.

Macon Police and firefighters searched for her using a helicopter and a bloodhound.

However, it was workers at a nearby plant, Triangle Chemical, that spotted the injured woman emerging from the woods and called police.

Witnesses said the woman was speeding when she broke through the “road closed” sign.

As she went over the wooded embankment the SUV could be seen soaring 75 to 80 feet in the air before rolling over three times.

“We found no one in the car but witnesses said there was somebody in the car and she was in the woods somewhere so we had to do a search,” said Macon- Bibb County Fire Station 21 Battalion Chief, Donnie Mercer.

Mercer said the woman denied being the driver of the car. She told authorities her husband and daughter was with her during the crash.

But, police located the young girl at school and said the child was in class at the time of the crash.

Chief Mercer said police were unable to locate her husband.

The battalion fire chief explained the woman had a seat belt burn on her left side. He said the injury indicated to police she was the driver.

The woman was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment.
