Bragg Jam 2013 Ends on a High Note

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bragg Jam 2013 ended on a high note this weekend as thousands of people flocked downtown to listen to great music and shop local.

Organizers estimate more than 3,000 people visited the city this weekend; stopping by stores, museums and restaurants.

“Ideally people come down here, bring their kids, have a good time, and then it’s a concert crawl,” said Bragg Jam co-marketing chair Everett Verner.

Planning an event with 56 bands, 15 stages, indoor and outdoor events is not an easy task. Organizers like Verner spend a good portion of the year finding what fits for the festival.

“You will see more trash cans along the streets,” Verner said, “and this year, we’ve shut down Cherry Street for the first time, we’ve never done that before, so hopefully people will see a cleaner and safer downtown.”

Cassie Bruscell’s family came all the way from Tampa to hear the sounds. She spent the early portion of Saturday at the arts event and that night partied at Roasted Café and Lounge.

“It’s always nice to see people actually enjoying downtown,” she said.

Veronica Moore and her daughters skipped the concert crawl all together and spent Saturday taking in the sights and shopping local.

“I’ve never been to downtown Macon,” Moore said, “so this gave me a good reason to come because of Bragg Jam.”

Roger Ruiz, the owner of Doughboy Pizza, doubled his staff on Saturday in anticipation of Bragg Jam visitors.

“This is one of the things you need to attend, it really is nice, it really is fun,” he said.
