Perry Officials Discuss Long-Range Vision for City

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry officials tackled the task of finding a long-range vision for the city on Monday.

In a special called meeting, council members discussed projects and priorities. Using construction paper and markers, they drafted a list of focal points pertaining to recreation, revenue sources, partnership and planning, service provision, economic development and commercial redevelopment.

Some of the projects included focusing on staffing at the new Davis Farms fire station and developing the downtown area.

“We have opened the fire station and do not have the funding to fully staff that particular station,” said Mayor Jimmy Faircloth, “but it is not just the staffing, there are other issues with the ISO rating that we’ve got to address.”

Council member Randall Walker wants a vision to reflect the city’s tradition and potential for growth. He recommends inviting the community to participate in mapping out the city’s future.

“I think it’s very important to engage them and ask them what they want us to focus on,” Walker said.

The group plans to report back in August.
