Bibb Juvenile Center Enters Next Phase in Construction
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Thomas Jackson Juvenile Justice Center in Bibb County is gearing up for its next phase in construction.
Tuesday, officials held a “topping out” ceremony on the corner of Second and Oglethorpe streets in Macon.
The $7 million facility, paid for using penny sales tax, will be the home to the county’s juvenile courts.
Officials, including Bibb County Commission Chair Sam Hart, signed the final beam that was put into place at the top of the building.
Hart said the goal of the center is not just to breakthrough to young people who are on the wrong path, but also to reduce teens from repeated bad behavior.
“What we hope this will do is actually reduce those numbers, and actually put them back in productive situations, hopefully school,” Hart said. “We’re hoping to that we can talk with the school system to see if they wouldn’t mind becoming a partner in this.”
The Thomas Jackson Juvenile Justice Center plans to open its doors in the Fall of 2014.
