Little League Softball Teams Arrive in Warner Robins for Southeast Region Tournament
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The girls from Toccoa Little League are loud and proud and ready to represent the Peach State!
Starting Thursday, girls from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia will duke it out at Little League Southeast Park. The tournament champion moves on to the World Series in Portland, Oregon.
It’s North Carolina manager Mark Anderson’s second trip to the International City. He says his girls are ready to play ball.
“They really want to go to Portland,” says Anderson. “I mean, we’ve been there once in 2011, so they kind of got the feel from the other kids of what it’s like, so they’re wanting to experience it, too.”
The region tournament takes place at one of the nicest faciliites in the country.
“They’ve even got a gift shop,” says Georgia’s Ivey Andrews, with a laugh. “I’ve never seen a place to have a gift shop before, but it’s really nice.”
Her teammate, Natalie Morgan, agrees.
“It is the best place I’ve seen so far,” she says. “It’s big, but I mean, we can play ball on it. It’s not that intimidating to me and my team.”
But what about all that competition?
“You’re just nervous,” says Georgia’s Mackenzie Rogers. “You don’t know what to expect. You don’t know how the teams are going to be, and you don’t know what your fielding is going to be like.”
Andrews says she’s not nervous at all.
“It’s mostly like all of our other games,” she says. “I mean, you go out there and you know the other teams are going to be rowdy. You know they’re going to be like, ‘Oh, we can do it; we can beat them.’ And then you’re like, ‘Oh what the heck; we can do it!'”
Georgia manager Allen Dunson is ready for his girls to go out and do what they do best.
“Just go out there and hit the ball,” he says. “Try to hit the ball and hope my pitching locks in. If so, I’ll be doing good.”
First pitch is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in Warner Robins. Georgia takes on South Carolina in its first pool play game at 4.
