PGA Junior League Tees Off Postseason, Players Qualify for All-Star Team

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you happened to be at Idle Hour Country Club Wednesday afternoon, you probably noticed most of the players on the course were actually kids!

It’s the PGA Junior League, represented in this region by teams from Idle Hour, Healy Point and River Forest. 

To make the all-star team and play in the postseason, the players first have to qualify.  Wednesday, seven of the team’s 10 spots were up for grabs.

“The kids are playing today to try to see if they can play into the postseason,” says assistant golf pro at Idle Hour, B.J. McCranie.

The league started in 2012 with 1,500 participants nationwide.  This year, that number grew to 8,000.  McCranie says junior participation at his course is through the roof.

“Idle Hour itself had 30 kids that played in the PGA Junior League (regular season) this year,” he says.

Once the all-star team is set, it’ll tee off in a sub-regional at Idle Hour, and if the team makes it out of
 that, it’ll head to the World Series.

“Our team is going to be phenomenal with up and coming talent,” says McCranie.  “We look forward to seeing them play as they get out there and compete against some other great players.”

The team will face a group from Athens in its first match at the sub-regional, and if the kids advance to the World Series, that’s scheduled for later this year at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth.
